Lockdown didn’t stop Pontypridd having their annual Children’s Book Festival!
This year it was done ‘virtually’ and there was a great program of author and illustrator events taking place over on Facebook all day on Saturday 30th May.
They very kindly asked me to take part and for this event I had to make my first ever 25 minute film.

(If you enjoy the film, please click the thumbs up on Youtube and the “Like” heart at the bottom of my Blog)
Making the film was quite fun - even though my equipment wasn’t up to much! To record myself, I sticky-taped my phone to a tower of Golden Syrup tins so that I had my hands free to draw! (Yes we love Golden Syrup in our house) How funny! But it worked!
My film shows how to make a concertina-style book. This type of book is like a normal book with pages, but it also opens out into a fantastic long scene! I chose a sea theme because I knew lots of us were missing the seaside during lockdown. I also made a little mermaid character to play with and she would live in the book and help us make up stories.
One lovely viewer called Rhia, made a book with her mum. They sent me the photos! The results were FANTASTIC! Take a look ….
Well done Rhia! I really LOVE your t-shirt too!
You could choose lots of different themes if you didn’t want to do under the sea. I’ve had a little think and here are some ideas I had below:-
The characters are a lot of fun. You can even put photographs of you and your friends on a stick and have adventures. I painted my little cousin as a mermaid! I hope she likes it!!
