How fabulous to be asked again to talk at Pontypridd’s Children’s Book Festival. This year we are virtual again but how fantastic to still be able to celebrate the joyful world of children’s books together.

To tie in with the release this month of my 45th illustrated book, I chose to create a little craft project around this beautiful book, written by the Welsh author and newsreader Lucy Owen. The book is called “Flower Girl” and is about a young girl that’s made out of the cherry blossom petals in her mum’s garden. What a lovely thought.
So I showed the viewers how to make some little fairy characters out of petals and leaves and how to make a little concertina book to store them in.
First of all we made the scene inside the book…
Then we went outside and collected lots of pretty leaves and flowers to make our little characters…
Next was the fun bit, we made our little fairies. Here they are stuck on lollipop sticks like puppets…
We made a cover for the book and this is how mine looked….
I hope you managed to make your own fairy book with me. Please share them on social media with @pontykidsbooks and @rebeccaharryillustrator - We would love to see them! And if you need to watch the film again please play it HERE.
